Previous Fights & Fighter History
Ilia Topuria vs Charles Oliveira
When Topuria announced his ambitions to capture the lightweight title, most expected him to face Islam Makhachev for the belt. However, the lightweight champion has also vacated and moved up a weight class, leaving Topuria facing Oliveira for the vacant belt. Topuria is an undefeated fighter, with a 16-0 record, and ended his time at featherweight by KOing Volkanovski and Holloway back to back. His excellent boxing and knockout power make him a major threat, and combined with strong grappling, he’s very difficult to stop. The former featherweight champion is the current betting favorite.
Oliveira is a veteran of the UFC, with a 23-10-1 record in the promotion and a 35-10 professional record. An impressive 70% of his UFC wins have come through submission, while only 5 of his 33 UFC fights have ended in a decision. Although he hasn’t suffered a KO/TKO loss since 2017, he has been hurt badly from strikes in recent fights. His recovery is excellent, but Topuria may be too powerful for him in this lightweight title fight.
Alexandre Pantoja vs Kai Kara-France
Since he won the flyweight belt from Brandon Moreno in 2023, Pantoja has defended it an impressive 3 times, and is now on a 7-fight win streak through the top of the flyweight division. This run also includes 3 submission wins. His professional record is now 29-5, with 13 wins and 3 losses in the UFC. One of the most impressive stats about Pantoja is that he’s never been finished in his professional career.
Kai Kara-France is one of the City Kickboxing fighters, sharing a gym with former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. In the UFC, he has 8 wins and 4 losses, and his professional record now stands at 25-11. He has previously lost to the top opponents in the flyweight division, including Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval, but earned his title shot with a first-round KO over Steve Erceg. However, the odds don’t favor the title challenger, and we’re predicting Pantoja to make another title defense by submitting his opponent.
Paulo Costa vs Roman Kopylov
Until 2019, Costa was undefeated in professional MMA, with 5 wins out of 5 in the UFC, including 4 KO/TKO wins. However, since he was beaten by Israel Adesanya in their title fight, he has won 1 out of 4 fights, losing to Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker and Sean Strickland while beating a retiring Luke Rockhold. He’s now 6-4 in the UFC, and injury issues have prevented him from being active.
Aside from a loss to Anthony Hernandez, Kopylov has looked excellent in his recent fights, winning 6 out of 7, including 5 KO/TKO wins. His striking has improved significantly, and the last time he stepped into the octagon, he finished Chris Curtis with a headkick. He’s the betting favorite in this matchup, mainly due to his recent form. 83% of Koyplov’s UFC wins have been by KO/TKO, and although Costa has only suffered 1 KO/TKO loss in his career, he could get stopped here.
