Women's WTA Wimbledon The Championships Betting Odds - Bet on ATP Tennis

The Women’s Tennis Association is the main body in women’s tennis, responsible for arranging the biggest events and tournaments in the sport. With its headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, the WTA oversees elite women’s tennis worldwide.

The body was established in 1973 by Billie Jean King, one year after the formation of the men’s ATP Tour. The first WTA event was the inaugural Virginia Slims, won by Rosie Casals.

There are more than 50 events on the WTA Calendar, comprising four grand slams and dozens of regular season events played in just under 30 different countries.

One of the biggest of these events, and the most prestigious and oldest Grand Slam on the calendar, is the Wimbledon Championships. The UK’s Grand Slam is the pinnacle of the sport for both men's and women's tennis players.

In this tennis betting guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about tennis betting for Wimbledon’s women’s singles at Stake Online Sportsbook.

What is Wimbledon?

There are four Grand Slam tournaments on the tennis circuit. These are the Australian Open, the French Open, the US Open, and Wimbledon. Together, they are the tournaments that define tennis professionals’ careers, but Wimbledon has a special place as perhaps the most sought-after.

It’s the oldest tournament still in play, and it is the only one of the four Grand Slams to be still played on grass courts. For this reason, it’s famous for being the most traditional of the Opens and has become synonymous with world tennis. Every year, South West London’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club becomes the centre of the tennis universe.

It’s broken up into a handful of different competitions, which include:

  • Women’s Singles

  • Men’s Singles

  • Women’s Doubles

  • Men’s Doubles

  • Mixed Doubles

There are also invitational and junior tournaments, but all eyes will be on both singles events and the doubles competitions.

History of Wimbledon

The first edition of Wimbledon was held all the way back in 1877. At that stage, it was held as both a tennis and croquet competition. The croquet half of the competition would be dropped in 1882, while women were permitted to compete in 1884, and professional status was confirmed in 1968.

The very first women’s singles final was an all-family spectacle. Sisters Maud and Lilian Watson were the last two standing from 13 competitors. Maud, just 19 years old at the time, claimed victory over her sister and became both the first woman winner and the first woman to win back-to-back titles when she won it the following year.

Since then, the women’s singles have thrown up some world-famous stars. Billie Jean King, Venus and Serena Williams, and the record-holder Martina Navratilova, who has 9 Wimbledon titles to her name. The current holder is Barbora Krejcikova, a young Czech looking to become one of the all-time greats.

How to Bet on Tennis & Tennis Bet Types

With so many brilliant players to bet on, you now need to decide which tennis betting lines to go for at Stake.com. Here are some of the most popular tennis betting types you can choose from:

  • Moneyline (Head-to-Head): A moneyline bet is a head-to-head bet on the player you think will win a specific tennis match. It’s the simplest bet to place on the tennis court at Stake.com.

  • Outright: An outright bet is a wager on the player you think will win a specific tournament, not just a tennis fixture. For instance, you could back Coco Gauff to win Wimbledon in an outright bet - this is also known as a futures betting market.

  • Correct Score: In tennis, a correct score bet is a wager on what you think the final score will be at the end of a match (2-0, 2-1, for instance).

  • Handicap: A handicap bet allows you to bet on the favourite with a handicap attached. This offers better value than betting on the favourite in a moneyline bet.

  • Over/Under: An over/under tennis bet is a totals wager in which you predict how many games will be played in a specific set.

  • Double Result: A bet on two results – perhaps the first set and match winner, for instance.

  • X Set Winner: A tennis wager on the player you think will win a specific set (the first, second, or third set, for instance).

  • X Set Total Games: A straightforward wager on the number of games you think will be played in a specific set.

  • 1st Set Correct Score: A bet on what you think the exact score will be at the end of a specific tennis match.

  • Exact Sets: A bet on the exact number of sets you think will be played in a fixture.

Tennis Betting Tips, Predictions & Strategies

Betting in tennis doesn't have to be complicated! But before placing your first WTA tennis bets, developing a tennis betting strategy is helpful. So, with that in mind, here are some betting tips to help you get started with your online sports betting:

  • Always do your research and find out how each player typically performs on different surfaces. Some players do well on clay, while others prefer grass.

  • Did you know that you can also bet on simulated reality tennis? This is a great way of placing bets as they provide more tennis lines and tennis picks when no live tournaments are underway.

  • Take advantage of other major tennis tournaments and events throughout the tennis season, as they can provide more opportunities for bettors. In addition to the WTA, check out the ITF women’s tennis betting markets and the ATP men’s events.

  • Read our sports betting guide for more helpful sports betting tips, including how-to guides like how to bet on tennis, information on betting strategies like the Oscar’s Grind system, and explainers for odds types, the vig, and sports betting terms.
